Netiquette is the combination of the two words network and etiquette. Etiquette is the proper way that a person should act socially towards others. Combining the words creates the term netiquette, or the social code for the internet, or network. Though netiquette rules differ between websites, the core rules include: Don't spam, Be honest, Be yourself, Use discretion, and Be conservative. In summary, a person should be careful to not let too much personal information get out to the internet world and to also be mindful towards others.
It is important to consider netiquette because safety for us and others is very important. If too much information on a student, or anyone, leaks onto the internet, their safety could be affected. Also, if a student starts to have harsh attitudes towards a person or subject, others may come to bizarre conclusions on how that person's personality is or their viewpoint. It is crucial to remember the Netiquette Golden Rule: Do unto others on the internet as you would have done to you online. My words of wisdom: Be careful. Be wise. Be yourself.
